Working with the Community
Written by Kyle Moore October 20, 2009
I have been doing a lot of work in the community in Tampa with Ryan Simms foundation, “Simms Swag Soldiers”. It deals a lot with foster kids and underprivileged kids. We go over there and give them hints on hygiene and how to keep healthy. We talk about brushing their teeth, using mouthwash washing their hands regularly.
All of the kids received Buccaneers gifts once we were done, such as sweatshirts, t shirts, back packs, knapsacks calendars, and hats. The kids all had a good time and we had a blast.
The Buccaneers Rookie Club, which is where all of the Bucs rookies go out into the community and help out in some way. We have gone to the Boys and Girls Club, have gone to Sea World with some underprivileged kids. All of the Bucs rookies are required to do this by the team, but we all enjoy it and look forward to it. Last week we did a Halloween appearance for the kids called the “Zoo Boo”. We all dressed up in costumes and I went as Darth Mall from the Star Wars movie.
They had a haunted house and we went in there and acted as monsters and scared the kids. There was also a costume contest for the kids and E.J Biggers and Sammie Stroughter were the judges for the contest.
Roy Miller dressed up as a gorilla skeleton, Demar Dotson dressed up as the character from Scream with the mask and everything. It was very intimidating with 6’9” 315 lb frame.
I am also involved with “Hovan’s Heroes”, and we did a football camp for the kids last summer. We had a great time with the kids helping them to learn the game of football. We all had a blast.
I was also involved with “The GI Joes versus Pros”. We played X-box live video games against military people that were over seas in Iraq. It was great because they got to see their families over the TV and play Buc’s players on video games such as Guitar hero, Madden 2010, Call of Duty, and Modern Warfare.
My boy and fellow defensive end Gaines Adams was traded to the Bears which was sad for me. We hung around together and talked to each other a lot. He was also helping me a lot in adjusting to life in the NFL. But I realize it’s part of the business and could happen to any of us.
We are playing in London this week against the Patriots and we leave Friday. It’s about an 8 ½ hour flight so we’ll probably watch a few movies, play cards, and sleep until we land. The Patriots are a great team, but we are going to give it our all throughout the game and hopefully come out with an upset victory in Wembley Stadium.

Tough Year so Far
Written by Kyle Moore September 29, 2009
I was really hoping to play against the Giants this past week, but I came back to practice during the week and injured my knee on Wednesday during a special teams run through.
I have been rehabbing it every day since. The knee was a lot less swollen then they thought it would be. To rehab it I have been icing it, and working on my range of motion. I am doing one-leg exercises to keep it strong and have been doing a lot of quad work right now.
I should only be out for about 2-3 weeks and then be back on the field playing real soon.
I wanted to be at the game and on the sidelines, or to even to watch it from the stands, but they told me not to risk it with the chance of someone bumping into it or having some other problem occur that might cause further injury or prevent it from healing properly. So I went to bar instead to watch the game and I had to talk smack the whole time with the other patrons that were there watching the game.
The game definitely did not turn out the way I was hoping it would, we lost 24-0 to Eli Manning and the Giants. As I was watching the game, all I was thinking was that I should have been out there on the field to help my team out and to help to put some pressure on the quarterback.
Practices are going to be a lot different and tougher in order to break this losing streak and get in the win column and we better get ready to work and work hard. I donít know what the coaches have in mind, but I am sure that the practices are going to be tough.
That's what happens when you start out the year 0-3, changes are inevitable in trying to turn the season around, and turn it around quickly.
As I have said before, Iím used to winning and this is not easy for me.

Time to Play
Written by Kyle Moore September 22, 2009
It was disappointing that I hurt my groin right before the first game this season against the Cowboys. Because of that, I had to miss the first two games and I did not play. But it is feeling a whole lot better and I’ll be back at practice on Wednesday.
I’m looking forward to playing the Giants this week at home. The crowd should be up for the game and it should be a real live one. I’ve been ready to play in the real games and I can’t wait to get in the game and make a difference and help out this defense.
I was on the sideline for the first two games and I’m disappointed that we lost both games. It’s a new feeling for me because I have never lost two games in a row throughout my entire football career in either high school or college at USC. Losing is a feeling that I am not used to and I don’t like it. I don’t like to lose at all. I am used to winning and I will do whatever it takes to help the team get back on the winning track again.
I’m glad I’m back and that I can get in the game and help the Bucs win some games. I had two and a half sacks in the preseason, so I want to get in there and get some sacks for real and in the official stat sheet.
Even though we lost the games, the defense is getting better from week to week. It’s a new defense and we are trying to get the communication together between the d-line, linebacker and defensive backs. But we are getting better each day and we will have it all together real soon and be the dominant Bucs defense that the people in Tampa have come to expect.
The offense is putting points on the board and looking good, but we as a defense have to stop the other team from scoring points when we get the lead. And I have no doubts that we will do that very soon.
This week we play the Giants and I would love to get my first NFL sack on Eli Manning. That would be great and something I would never forget. The goal for my NFL career is to sack every Quarterback from all 32 teams and to start with Eli would be great.
The Giants are tough, they run the ball well and they pass the ball well so we are going to have our hands full. The Offensive will have their hands full as well. The Giants have a great defense line and they create a lot of pressure on the Quarterback, so Byron will have to play fast and get rid of the ball quickly.
I think that we will be able to give the Giants a run for their money, play a tough game and make it difficult for them throughout the game. I hope that we come out with a win for our fans in our home stadium.

A Lot Different Than College
Written by Kyle Moore August 9, 2009
I have been in camp now for five days and after the culture shock, things are going a lot better. The first couple of days were good, then my body got sore. I still worked hard and didn’t make excuses, but my body was sore from all the hitting.
The team started right off in full pads, unlike in college where we started the first few practices in shorts. It was unexpected and kind of took me by surprise.
This is a lot different than playing in college. Every day is a grind and today was our third two-a-day. We practice, then have meetings, then we practice again and then have more meetings. We’re working real hard and right now there isn’t a whole lot of free time.
We get up at 7:00 in the morning and usually don’t get back to our rooms until 10:00 at night with all the practices and the meetings. Then I go and sit in a cold tub for a while and then take a shower. It’s a long day, but it’s all worth it. I love it because I love football and doing what I love to do.
We finally got a day off on Sunday, which was a good thing, as the whole team was looking very forward to it.
I think I’m making a great impression though, especially this past Wednesday. They gave me a shout out at today’s defensive meeting after practice, which made me feel good that I had a better day today. I just have to keep it consistent and keep it going.
In my off time I have been mostly sleeping, it’s really tiring with all of these practices. We only get an hour or two of time off between the practices and the meetings with all of these two-a-days.
Sometimes, on the days that we only have one practice, I’ll study the playbook, or get on my computer, read my emails or play a game. Other times, I’ll go to the game room and play pool or some other games with some of my teammates.
The food here is awesome. We have a great chef who cooks some great meals for us. They will also make us snacks and milkshakes when we want in between meals if we are hungry.
It’s a lot harder than college but the good thing is that you don’t have to worry about school and term papers or homework, its all football all the time. Oh and the fact that I get paid now makes it better too.
This coming up weekend is out first preseason game against the Tennessee Titans in Nashville and I’m really looking forward to it. I’ll get to play my cousin, Nate Washington, and my old friend and teammate from USC, running back LenDale White. It should be real fun. I’m hoping to be in the game at the same time as LenDale so that I can hit him and drive him into the ground, and then smile at him and say hello to my old friend. I want to let him know that I am here.
As far as rookie hazing, up until Saturday, the only thing I have had to do so far was to carry the pads and helmets of the veterans back to the locker room. I was sure that sooner or later I would have to get up and sing or something, but it all comes with the territory.
Well they actually hazed us Saturday. I had to stand on stage and sing a song. I sang “You Make Me Wanna” by Usher. You have to sing a song that everybody knows or they will boo you off the stage like Apollo...ha ha.
Overall, camp is going well and I am looking forward to the games and the season.

A Dream Come True
Written by Kyle Moore July 13, 2009
Hello Bucs fans!
I am very happy to be a Buccaneer and I look forward to a great season.
Being drafted by the Buccaneers was a great feeling. I had turned off the draft on the TV because I thought I would go earlier, I was half-asleep, and all of a sudden, I turned it back on and heard that the Bucs had traded up. Right at that moment, I got a call from Florida, and ran into the living room to tell my family. Everyone was cheering as well as crying and everyone was very happy. It was just an overall great feeling that I will never forget.
It was a dream come true for me. I have waited a long time for this to happen and I am very happy that the opportunity is finally here and that it is a reality for me now.
As far as the OTA’s, they went very well. I think that the coaches are happy with my performance and me in general. I made some great strides in learning the defense. The terminology is a little different from at USC, but it is basically the same. We played a pro-style defense at USC so it has been a fairly easy transition for me so far. Overall, they went very well.
It is a lot to learn with special teams and the nickel defense. I’m listed as the starter right now in the nickel defense, and second string on the regular defense. Right now, I’m just learning and trying to figure out how they want to use me and doing the best that I can.
Learning the playbook is the biggest transition from college to the pros. There are a lot more plays and the book is a lot thicker than it was at USC. The speed of the game is also a lot faster, but I am looking forward to seeing the speed of the game once we get into pads at training camp.
I think the team overall looks great. The defense is young and we are all real hungry so the unit should be back to its dominant form once again. With the team additions of running back Derrick Ward, tight end Kellen Winslow, and quarterback Byron Leftwich, I really think the offense is going to surprise a lot of people this season.
I have made friends and bonded with a couple of the veteran players. I have been hanging out with Gaines Adams and Dre Moore. We went out a few times together and I am getting to know them pretty well. I will also be going to a defensive end camp in Atlanta with Gaines and there will be many veteran defensive ends at the camp from around the league too. I am sure that I will learn a few things while I am there and I am looking forward to it.
I am looking forward to the season and my first year in the NFL with the Buccaneers.
